Should he leave now or wait for the sun? He weighed the symbolism between night and dawn, Nyx and Eos. Reason told him that he should wait until morning. There was no safe way of knowing what roamed the mountain at night, and it would be so easy to loose himself in the dense forests. The image of a rising sun certainly would sound better in an epic… like anyone would bother with his story.
There was something strangely appealing about stealing away under the cover of darkness in much the same way Aias had. And was Nyx not an oracular goddess? Though, he had been planning to visit the Delphic oracle, while Nyx’s was in Megara. Megara had the benefit of being closer, probably. Would it be faster to walk halfway up the straight then to sail across the gulf? And Megara was Doric, wasn’t it? Or was it Attic? That was the problem with boarder cities, it was impossible to to keep their allegiances straight.
There was no way he was going to consult an Attic oracle.
And he had heard nothing of the Megarian oracle’s accuracy, while Delphi was renowned far and wide. Delphic prophecies came from Apollo himself. Would the god of light take offense to someone leaving for his temple while it was still dark? And the symbolic implications of starting a journey at dawn… Wasn’t Eos prone to kidnapping men and making them her lovers? It had happened to Orion. He could just leave while the sun was high in the sky, but he would almost certainly get caught up in the day’s work. If Nyx was the mother of Eos, but Apollo was the one who brought the sun across the sky – or was she the sister of Eos? Maybe they weren’t related at all. Kleitos had to sit down for a minute. The entire thing was giving him a headache.
He needed to stop thinking so much about it and just act. Aiashad berated him before about getting caught up in the planning. He should just go. No more planning. He grabbed his sword and left the barracks.
The sky had taken on a powdery complexion. Great, dawn. He should have left sooner.
fun fact: “nolo” is latin for “do not want” so if someone says yolo you can say nolo and they’ll think its just a stupid comeback but in all actuality you’re speaking latin which is classy as shit so haha the jokes on them
and it means “(you’re) embarrassing” in finnish so it’s double joke on them
